Mentorship

Wangari Maathai

"It is important to nurture any new ideas and initiatives that can make a difference for Africa."

KWITU is dedicated to empower its members and make them feel more supported by our mentorship programs.

By providing Kenyan women with mentorship, we aim to give them meaningful opportunities for growth. The impact and guidance that mentorship can provide is unmatched and just the thing that Kenyan women in the US need.

KWITU has a diverse group of talent who volunteer their expertize to mentor young women into leadership. Our mentorship opportunities are geared towards enabling self-reliance and entrepreneurship. We strive to give opportunities that encourage our membership continuity.

To help us in our mission, we’ve initiated a partnership program with eMentoring Africa. The program is called Pass It On (PIO) and provides mentorship to form 4 graduates. Form 4 in Kenya is equivalent to 12th Grade in the US. The students stay idle for two months while they try out for university admissions. KWITU aims to fill these idle moments for the students. Instead of wasting this time, KWITU hopes to keep these graduates busy with a mentor who can guide them. By directing the students towards their future goals and ambition, these mentors can pass on their expertise to the future leaders.

Mentorship – Allowing you to realize the potential inside yourself

The program will start with a one-day forum dubbed the ULTIMATE MENTORSHIP EXPERIENCE. The Kenyan students will be motivated and introduced to the program through a series of talks and activities. This step will lead to individual mentorship.

Candidates can sign up for the next phase and become mentors themselves. It will be their opportunity to pass on the lessons they learned. It’s important to remember that mentorship is a two-way street. This is where the KWITU ladies come in.

KWITU Inc. members can submit a profile to eMentoring Africa to sign up. The platform will match them with a candidate and the learning experience will begin. Using an online platform for their convenience (Skype, WhatsApp, etc.), the accomplished members of KWITU can virtually mentor the youth. The mentorship is structured and guided to work with the mentor and the mentee. They require the members to have a monthly correspondence with the mentee.

The 4 pillars behind this program, which will act as a guide for e-mentors include:

  • Career choice/guidance.

  • Entrepreneurship.

  • Volunteerism.

  • Talent commercialization.

Mentorship can be the key driver of success, especially for the Kenyan students who are in need of guidance. Not only do they stand to gain from this experience, but it pays off for the mentor too. The team at KWITU is driven to achieve the desired results and provide Kenyan students the opportunity of a lifetime.
